Story

Galas Stanislaw- born in Warsaw, 1922. In 1941 he entered ZWZ(Association of Armed Struggle), which was changed to the Home Army in 1942. Before the World War II Galas lived on Ogrodowa Street, then he moved to Praga Polnoc on Brzeska street with his family.

During the occupation Stanislaw Galas was helping his mother in trade on Różycki Market. Apart from Poles, Jews were trading there. Children, girls were leaving the ghetto to buy or sell something and help their families survive. Galas met some Jews- David (named Jedrek) and his older sister Dora (named Janka). The young boy helped his mother almost all the time, it was much harder to buy an article than selling it. Dora and David were coming from the ghetto to the market, Dora in order to feel safer was wearing a big christian cross, David had a scout hat/cap. The boy was 11 years old but he was 14 in fact. Dora was a really brave girl, she was buying articles and moving/transfering them to the ghetto what was really dangerous at that time.

Janka was a pleasant, polite girl. While the ghetto was being removed, one woman promised to give a shelter to her siblings. After a short time she decided not to help David in hiding and he had to find a new place- in Galas's house. The house was located between two stations and a market. Dawid lived on Brzeska Street for some time but he decided to leave the place and move to Mazowiecka Rawa near his family. There was a raid on the station, it was not sure if people were transferred to extermination camp but Dawid escaped. He has been living in Galas house for a long time with 3 more Jews- 2 sisters with children and their friend. After a half year someone discovered that Jews were hiding there and they all have to leave the house. Dawid finally moved to the unknown village.

The April 43' came during the insunection in the Warsaw Ghetto. Father who was in the underground took back 10 combatants and kept them in the cellar. Dawid was there. He took him on Brzeska street. The next day there was a slip-up-some people from the underground organisation shoot the german sentry in front of the edifice of courts. There was a hospital there. White street. It doesn't exist know. The here standing at the corner, with a father and someone, a conversation with the partner, estate agentwho had to rent a local, we hear the shot, two nice heared men and German fell down. Galas told his father to go home, but he said that he was old and nothing bad could happen to him. Galas came back to work. Germandiscovered the hiding place. Those Jews showed the father who was kepping them. They arrested the father and the Jews. In one moment they have just dissapered. Dawid has survived, because Galas took him 2 days ago. Dawid with a new certificate, went to Ukraina who employed him. He had to pretend that he sells pigeons. Dawid survived many different histories.

After the World War II he moved to Israel where he died 4 years ago. His sibling Dora survived on that side, brother on the east, in army, he weather the war, another sister left before the War to Israel, the brother died 3 years ago and the sister is 87 years old now.
